About the water district
Basey Water District (BWD) is a government-owned and controlled water utility in Basey, Samar. The local government established it in 1977 and transferred management to the district in 1982.
History
The Sangguniang Bayan created BWD through Resolution No. 97 on October 31, 1977. The resolution followed Presidential Decree No. 198, the Provincial Water Utilities Act of 1973.
On September 6, 1982, the Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA) awarded the Conditional Certificate of Conformance No. 215 to the Basey Water District, which entitled the District to LWUA’s comprehensive assistance program.
On March 12, 1992, the Supreme Court declared water districts created under PD 198 to be government-owned or controlled corporations. BWD acquires, installs, improves, maintains, and operates water supply and distribution systems within its boundaries.
As a small water district, BWD has 2,342 active service connections and serves an estimated population of 11,710 as of December 31, 2024.
